Flash in the pan
I’ve disabled Flash in my browsers. I just got sick of trying to read online magazine and newspaper articles with huge animated advertisements right in my line of sight.
As far as I can tell this shouldn’t have any unhappy side affects on my life. I can’t think of any website I visit which use Flash for any functional purpose except the occasional one or two which use it for navigation — hope they are serving up an alternative method.
Flash in it’s current manifestation as a portal to Web Services and Remote Scripting has been around in the wild for a year or so, with Macromedia claiming high distribution numbers for the Flash 6 plugin. Why is it still being used by advertisers solely for annoying animation delivery rather than clever connections to advertiser products and services? Is it a problem with Flash or the complete cluelessness of advertising agency talent?
