Do as we say not as we do
I just got a remider email about this years OASIS Open Standards conference in Sydney
from the organisers.
The mission of OASIS is to promote and encourage the use of structured
information standards such as XML, SGML, and CGM. An important part of this
mission is the development of vertical industry applications, conformance
tests, and interoperability specifications that make those core standards
useable.

Perhaps this conference should have been subtitled Do as we say not as we do.
Not only is the markup used for this conference site
non-standard,
it is a good example of markup with poor structure - this is what headings look like in its markup;
<p class="heading"> BACKGROUND</p>
and
<p>
<b>Organization for the
Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS)</b>
</p>
Advancement of Structured Information Standards indeed! To boot the markup is thoughtless about its accessablity. Come on OASIS! practice what you preach.
To add a further note of irony, one of the sponsors of this year’s conference is well known Redmond, WA open standards advocate Microsoft.
